The Unbundled Workforce: Rethinking Work in the Age of AI
For decades, organisations have been built around stable job roles, fixed hours, and clearly defined employment boundaries. The traditional Employer Value Proposition (EVP) has centred on security, progression, and benefits.
But as AI begins to automate and augment large parts of knowledge work, the foundations of what it means “to work” are shifting. Tasks are being redistributed and automated, portfolio careers are becoming more common, and professionals increasingly expect autonomy, flexibility, and meaningful contribution.
Together, these forces are accelerating the rise of a more unbundled workforce — where value lies less in occupying a role and more in deploying specialised capability. This changes the talent attraction question from ‘what can we offer’ to ‘why should people collaborate with us at all’?
In this thought-provoking and practical session, Elaine Dutton will guide participants through a short diagnostic exercise to map their organisation’s current reality against three emerging shifts:
- What work can be automated, augmented, or unbundled, and where is human advantage increasing?
- In which areas do we shift our mindset from employer to collaborator and what adjustments does an Organisational Collaboration Proposition require?
- How do we rethink structure, performance, and talent design, in order to attract and engage ‘unbundled’ professionals?
Participants will leave with a clearer lens for understanding how AI and changing workforce expectations are quietly reshaping what organisations must offer to remain relevant in a more fluid talent ecosystem.
